Wintery weather outside . . . warm and cozy inside

It's snowy outside, but inside a cup of tea is brewing and homemade bread is warm from the oven. I love working on my books. Writing and drawing bring me such joy during these difficult times. In a cold and often cruel world, I find that the act of creating something beautiful, something warm and heartfelt, is the best way to create an oasis of peace. My stories are about children enjoying friendships, and discovering how to be brave, kind, accepting, and resilient. They are set in a lovely forest and feature the little things that kids notice - twigs, flowers, pinecones and pebbles. The more we teach our children to love and appreciate nature, family, friends, and community, the more we can help to heal the world.

This is my first blog post so I want to introduce my art, my books, and my purpose for making them. I've noticed a growing disconnect between kids and the natural world. Too often, children sit in front of screens, instead of climbing trees and playing in puddles. We plunk them down in front of TV instead of cuddling up and reading stories, coloring pictures, or singing a song together. I understand how busy and stressed parents are these days, but I hope that my books can be part of a family time that focuses on what truly matter - connection with your little ones. Bearberry Books won't change the world, but who knows . . . perhaps they'll influence the ones who will. Maybe adventures in the woods will inspire children to protect the precious trees and animals and to love art and nature.

Welcome to my blog, and I hope you'll be back to read more.

Tea and homemade bread make me smile.
